Book Review: The Daniel Plan-40 Days to a Healthier Life

DanielPlan

I was thrilled when I saw that I would be able to review this new book by Pastor Rick Warren, Dr. Daniel Amen and Dr. Mark Hyman. I had heard about this book and how it came to be and was really excited to find out what it was all about. I received the book in e-book format and honestly, unless you are an e-book type of person, I would HIGHLY suggest you buy the hard cover version of it.  Why?  Let me tell you!

This book is thorough. This is not a book that you read easily and remember every detail.  This is a book that you will want to highlight and refer back to over and over again. I really appreciated how thoughtful and well-planned out The Daniel Plan was and the emphasis on living a healthy life the way God intended. The focus was on first understanding that our relationship with God was the most important and that
if that is healthy, then we have a place to start treating our bodies well and thus, living a healthy lifestyle.  There is a companion journal that is available as well.

One of the quotes that stuck with me was, “If you really believed God’s power was behind you, energizing you and sustaining you, what would hold you back?”. Wow! That’s a big one. It brings my trust and faith in God to a whole other level.  Do I really believe that God has given me power through His spirit or am I just saying it or going through the motions?  It says that with God’s help, I can look in the mirror even when I am worn out and stressed (sound like anyone you know personally?) and God will help me become healthy through His spirit in me.  “God expects me to take care of my body.”

There are so many things that I highlighted in this book! What is awesome is that they also give you a meal plan, recipes and a detox that will prepare your body for the change in lifestyle. The goal is not to diet, but to eat whole, nutritious food that will sustain this body we were blessed to care for. If you are ready to see what this is about, head over to Zondervan Books to find out how you can get a copy of The Daniel Plan for yourself!
