Faithful Friday: A Grateful Heart

A grateful heartlights the way in the darkness.

Here we are at Faithful Friday again! Where does the time go?

I’ve been thinking alot about gratitude. For the longest time I struggled with overwhelming stress. At least that is what I called it. I now understand that stress was just a word that I used to describe what I was feeling inside. The reality is that it was FEAR.

I was a new mom and I feared that I wouldn’t be a good mom. I feared all those things that new moms worry about…that we’re taught to worry about. What if my child falls asleep on his stomach? What if I didn’t do this or did do that? All those things new moms fear weighed on me heavily.

Add in just normal day to day fears that were there all along. Fears of not being able to pay the bills. Fears about ailing parents who would one day not be here.

But what happens when you live in fear is that the light within you that was given by God, is dimmed. Your ability to shine a light into and onto this world that is so dark sometimes, gets extinguished. But there is one way to flip that switch and make your light shine brighter than any LED lightbulb.

It’s called gratitude.

Now, when I am feeling that “S” word, I pause and think about what is underneath it all. What is the fear that is behind it? Even if I can’t put a name to it, I will then go into what is called gratitude state. It is a state of being where you are filled with gratefulness for anything that makes your heart sing. The more you do this, the more you will notice that the light that you thought was gone, is still there. It has been there all along and is ready to be shared with the world.

Don’t stay in the darkness. The world needs your grateful heart to light the way in the darkness.

Are you willing to share it?
